Refurbishing Old Schools

The Nandalala Seva Samithi Trust, the parent organization of the Nandalala Mission in the U.S., is involved in a number of programs for refurbishing old schools in rural areas of India.

edapalayam1.jpg This report is on the inauguration of the refurnished Govt Elementary School at Edapalyam Village on the outskirts of Ranipet, Industrial Town of South India, 120 Km, from Chennai, on January 6, 2005.

The Chief Guest for opening function was our Amma, Pujyasri Mathioli R.Saraswathy and the Rotary District Governor and other Govt officials. Messrsr. Narasimhan (Trustee, Sri Nandalala Religious Trust ), M.Srinivasan, and Mrs Saraswathy Srinivasan, Members Educational Wing, Nandalala Seva Samithi Trust, Mrs Soundarya Ramjee, Ms Poornima went along with Sri. Mathioli Saraswathy.

edapalayam4.jpg The School was initially identified for financial assistance to provide for fencing, drinking water, sanitary facilities, tables and benches for school children by the Rotary Club, but their condition warranted a Sponsor to meet 33% of the estimated cost . We, Nandalala Seva Samithi Trust, provided Rs. 50,000/- and local village people donated Rs 10,000/- to show their commitment for proper maintenance and few others donated about 10,000/-. The total cost was met by balance contribution from Rotary to the extent of Rs 140,000/-

edapalayam6.jpg Items provided were fencing, drinking water line and tank, Sanitary facilities for boys and girls, overhead tank , sewage septic tank, class room furniture, library building and shelves and painting of entire premises.
